Lorri Newman, LCSW
Biography: I have worked in the field of eating disorders for over 20 years in all levels of care, including residential level of care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient. I incorporate Family Based Treatment (FBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), using a Psychodynamic Therapy approach in my work.
I am flexible, open minded, and often attempt to use humor and spirituality to guide my work. Compassion and applying a strength based approach in relationships is a vital step in creating a safe therapeutic environment.
I realize that any change is hard, and in forming a new therapeutic relationship, it is essential to create trust, honesty, connection, and collaboration in our work together.
I received my both my Masters in Social Work (MSW) and Type 73 school certification from Loyola University in Chicago. Additionally, I completed the 10 Vipassana Meditation Course in Rockford in 2018. Meditation is an essential part of my everyday life, and I often use the concepts of Vipassana in the therapeutic process.
